About support

The Huygens-Fokker Foundation has over the years received subsidies from various funds for different purposes. Collaborations have also been established with several organisations. Below is an overview.

Collaboration with the Muziekgebouw aan ’t IJ (2009–present)

We are grateful for the excellent collaboration with the Muziekgebouw aan ‘t IJ. This enables the Huygens-Fokker Foundation to jointly organise the Fokker organ concerts and other activities.

Support for the MicroFest Amsterdam (2011)

The significant financial support of the Amsterdams Fonds voor de Kunst, the Nationaal Lucht- en Ruimtevaartlaboratorium and the Goethe-Institut made it possible in 2011 to organise the microtonal festival desired by the Huygens-Fokker Foundation; the MicroFest Amsterdam.

Support for the purchase of the Carrillo piano (2011)

To the great delight of the Huygens-Fokker Foundation, a donation from the Nederlands Akoestisch Genootschap and a joint contribution from six well-known consulting engineering firms, namely DGMRCauberg-HuygenPeutzLBP|SIGHTWijnia-Noorman-Partners (WNP) and M+P (Müller-BBM group), made the purchase of the 96-tone Carrillo piano possible. Almost half of the purchase price was donated by the Netherlands Acoustical Society (NAG), the other half was raised by the consulting firms. As a result, the Carrillo piano has been preserved for the Netherlands. (January 2011) The Huygens-Fokker Foundation would like to extend its sincere thanks to all the sponsors involved for their major contribution. The foundation would also like to thank piano specialist Robbert Westera for his special efforts.

Renovation of the Fokker organ (2008/2009)

With joy the Huygens-Fokker Foundation has received the decision of the SNS REAAL Fund to financially support the renovation of our Fokker organ. Through a considerable contribution to our extensive project, the implementation of it is made possible. For this reason the foundation is particularly grateful to the SNS REAAL Fund (now Fonds 21) for the confidence in our project and our foundation.

The foundation is also delighted to learn that the Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds will make a substantial contribution to the renovation project of the Fokker organ. In a letter the board of the fund has stated that it considers the restoration of the Fokker organ to be of such importance, that it has decided to grant an amount higher than the guidelines. The Huygens-Fokker Foundation is very grateful to the Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds for the recognition of the great cultural value of our project.

Support for the midification of the Fokker organ practice keyboard (2008)

The practice keyboard built in 1963 by Pels, belonging to the Fokker organ, can, thanks in part to a modest contribution from the Olga Heldring Fonds (Fundatie Van den Santheuvel, Sobbe), be restored and midified. This modernisation of this ‘silent’ practice keyboard is of great importance, since it will make it possible for the organist to practise (with sound!) on a copy of the 31-tone keyboard at any location, as a result of which the Huygens-Fokker Foundation will be less dependent on the availability of the BAM Hall, where the original 31-tone keyboard will have its place.

Selfless commitment of M3H Architects (2007/2008)

Thanks to the selfless commitment of M3H Architecten, realistic drawings and simulations were made of the Fokker organ in the Kleine Zaal, in which this extensive instrument was to be realised, before the actual renovation of the Fokker organ began. M3H also provided the Huygens-Fokker Foundation with structural-technical advice.

Support for the activities of the Huygens-Fokker Foundation (2005-2007)

Since the 1960s, the Huygens-Fokker Foundation has received subsidies from the Dutch national government. From 2005 to 2007, the Huygens-Fokker Foundation received a four-year subsidy from the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science (OCW). This has been continued since 2008 by the Performing Arts Fund (Fonds Podiumkunsten).
From 2009 onwards, the foundation will apply for project subsidies for microtonal activities from the Performing Arts Fund.
