Abstract:
Based on a consonance criterion that is founded on combination
tones, first the Western twelve-step scale is derived from the
major triad. The same procedure, extended to consonant intervals
not used in the Western scale, then leads to a thirteen-step scale
filling the framework of the twelfth. This scale is presented
in just and equal tempered tuning. Approaches are shown to a tonal
system, based on this scale, and to the realization of 13-tone
music.
